Istanbul is the cultural and financial centre of Turkey.
Travelers love this area for its rich heritage and many tourist attractions. One attraction is the Çiragan Palace. This palace was rebuilt at least five times. This was first constructed in 1855 for Sultan Abdülaziz to live in during his reign. However, the fickle sultan decided to move out after a few months, criticizing the palace as a damp place to reside in. Ayasofya or St. Sophia is another tourist spot in Istanbul. This used to serve as the triumph of Christianity and also as Byzantium’s symbol. Byzantium and Constantinople were Istanbul’s former names. This is such a massive Church that until the sixteenth century, it was known as the biggest Christian church in the world. The Beyazit Mosque or Beyazit Camii is among the oldest mosques in Istanbul and this was created from 1501 to 1506. This is a central dome that is supported by semi-domes and it has a long nave with double walkway.
Tourists should also visit the Istanbul Archaeology Museum or Arkeoloji Müzesi. It is housed in three different buildings and has more than one million objects. Guests should make a special visit here to see the sarcophagi that actually came from the fourth century B.C. This museum has a vast chronological collection of artifacts found locally that shed light on the history and origins of Istanbul.
